PURDUE FOOTBALL '08
EXPECT THE EXPECTED.

9 brain dumps:

Did you really expect us to beat Penn State? I didn't. I don't expect us to beat Ohio State either. I am hopeful that we can still win 6 or 7 games and go bowling. Don't lose faith guys.

Ever Grateful, Ever True.

Just wondering out loud here... Did JT let go the wrong OC? Because Bill Legg is doing the impossible by giving Florida International U's offense signs of an actual pulse (they beat a pretty decent Toledo squad 42-10 yesterday). Coach Z's schemes are easily read and easily stymied.
Just sayin'

Matt, I don't think it's that we lost -- it goes a lot deeper than that. As we have detailed, this team has the talent to compete with anyone in the Big Ten. Not necessarily beat, but they should be able to compete and scare some teams. And we were all there in person yesterday and saw them not even show up... no fire, no heart, terrible play.

We can all deal with losing if the team is making the effort -- and if the coaching staff is making the effort. But the staff has checked out -- something we've heard from various reliable sources -- and thus the players are checking out.

We'll never lose our love and faith for our team. But we're spent right now.

believe me - we know all about teams appearing to not give it their all - and that hurts.

I don't know what it is about 12pm (EST) starts - but the kids never seem to be fully-awake.

The Purdue defense played a nice game - they held PSU in key moments - and that has been difficult to do this year.

Interesting sympathy article at JG.

I just want to point out that Joey Elliot, who is probably well below the NFL radar, had NO problem finding our "subpar" receivers on his ONE drive of the game.

Time after time this season, I have watched Curtis Painter stare down his receiver only to throw the ball over the receiver's head, or at the receivers ankles.

Our offense is based on the short pass, and receivers making yardage after the catch. If they have to break stride, jump, or dive for the ball every time, then the little 3-yard passes aren't going to be very effective.

We're now 2-3, Painter's "Heisman Hopes" are dead. We need to win 5 of the next 8 to be bowl eligible. We are not beating OSU at Columbus, Michigan is coming up to form, Northwestern is 5-0 - even IU seems to at least have a pulse.

It's time to "add a spark" to this offense for an entire game, not just midway through the 4th qtr.

Replacing Sommers with Wigges is a good start, now Elliot needs to get the nod at QB. Any semblance of a passing game will open things up more for Sheets, and we can salvage at least a Christmas Eve bowl appearance.

Matt, we got exactly what I expected...a hearty loss. That's the point.

I actually think our receivers are pretty solid. Not many teams in the Big ten have 2-3 consistent options at WR.

Summers and Painter have clearly regressed from '07. But, I don't think the QB is the problem, nor the kicker.
