Computers and Humans Like Matty's Boys

I haven't done this too often in a few years, because really, there has been no reason to do it...But a few years ago, I created the greatest, most ingenious basketball ranking invention ever* called the CCR. Now, for the first time in the history of the world, I publishing this week's BSCR (Boiled Sports Composite Ranking).

Formerly, the CCR (Computer Composite Ranking) was an average of the three major computer polls. The BSCR is an average of the five major polls- both computer generated and generated by votes of real live human beings. Those polls are the AP, Coaches Poll, Pomeroy, RPI and Sagarin. For some reason, the RPI is still pretty stupid...maybe it's because it's early in the season or maybe their equation is flawed (which it is).

The Forces of Good currently hold a BSCR of:

14.4

If you drop the drunk RPI ranking, it drops significantly to:

8.75

They currently are 11th in both of the recently released AP and Coaches Polls.

My gut tells me that 10-15 is a pretty fair place for our Boilers at this point...but each test will help us all get a better handle on what they really are, obviously.

As I type, Matty's boys are headed to Pittsburgh for their first real test of the season versus an undefeated Pitt squad. Pitt is always known for their toughness, especially in the frontcourt...It'll be good to see how Ham Slammich continues to respond to coming off of the bench, If Haas can stay on a tear and if Biggie can put up another double double after a few games in which scoring hasn't come as easily as it did early on.

*BS CCR is neither great, nor ingenious
