2016 Purdue Football Coaching Search: Brady Hoke

2016 Purdue Football Coaching Search: Brady Hoke

Candidate Tier #5

Category: Doofy, Out-of-Touch, Low Stock

Who Is He?

Brady Hoke is basically Peter Griffin in human form.

He is currently Oregon’s DC and is the former coach of Michigan, San Diego State and Ball State. Hoke is a MAC-type of coach but he sort of aged out (Frank Solich notwithstanding) of the MAC and won enough and was a “Michigan man” so he got the job there. We remember being surprised by this at the time because Hoke seemed like more of a Purdue kind of target than a Michigan one. He then did the opposite of a PJ Fleck kind of guy where he goes from terrible to awesome. Hoke went from 11-2 his first year, to 8-5, to 7-6 to 5-7 to the unemployment line. Oof. And now he’s coaching “defense” at Oregon. So he’ll certainly be available again soon.

Why would he be successful at Purdue?

He wouldn’t. He’s not a good coach. He also lets visibly concussed players back onto the field, isn’t smart enough to wear appropriate clothing and always talks like he just got his ‘nads slammed in a car door.

Why could he flop at Purdue?

He’s a documented doofus who really may never have been that good of a coach to begin with.

Would he come to Purdue?

Yes, probably. He may never get another head coaching gig, so if Purdue offered, he’d be crazy not to accept it.
