Larry Clisby Has Lung and Brain Cancer; Cancer Continues to Suck

As you may have heard this week, longtime Purdue basketball play-by-play man Larry Clisby has Stage 4 lung cancer as well as cancer in his brain. Stage 4 is the most advanced stage of lung cancer and yet a sizable number of people are diagnosed already in stage 4. What this means for Cliz' prognosis is unclear. There are of course stories of people coming back from the edge but given his age and the advanced nature of the illness, it feels like a horrible body blow to the Purdue sports community.

A GoFundMe campaign was launched with a goal of $10,000 to support Clisby's costs of care. Matt Painter immediately went out there and donated $10k himself, because he's awesome. As of the writing of this post on Monday afternoon, the fund is over $51,000.

Clisby has been working as the voice of Purdue basketball since 1984, having been in the West Lafayette radio game since the 1970s. He also was the voice of Purdue football for eight years and was recently inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame.
